This Week on VeVe: Boozy Besties, POTBALL & Marvel First Appearances

This week on VeVe went from drinks with faces to classic Marvel villain debuts surprisingly quickly.
tokidoki – Boozy Besties turned sake, beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits into a nine-piece digital collectible lineup, COOLRAIN returned with POTBALL Series 2, and Marvel reached back into the Silver Age for the first appearances of Sauron and the High Evolutionary.
Peach Momoko also brought one of her covers to VeVe as a one-of-one artwork.

tokidoki – Boozy Besties
tokidoki opened the drinks cabinet this week.
Boozy Besties turns a whole range of celebratory drinks into digital collectibles, from sake and beer to wine, champagne, tequila, whiskey, and tropical cocktails.
The lineup comes straight from the kind of playful character design tokidoki does best. Brewsky is a beer with a football obsession. Novello puts a wine bottle on a skateboard. Mai Mai looks ready for a beach holiday. Whiskey Tango brings a guitar along for the ride.
Then there is Maido & Kanpai, a sake bottle and matching cup built around friendship and sharing a toast.
The full lineup includes Maido & Kanpai, Brewsky, Novello, Mai Mai, Cherry Bomb, Bubbly, Agave, Whiskey Tango, and a Maido & Kanpai Special Edition.
Maido & Kanpai
For a collection built around drinks, Maido & Kanpai gets closest to the reason people raise a glass in the first place.
The bottle and cup are designed as a pair, with the focus on sharing the moment with someone else. That gives the duo a little more warmth than the louder personalities around them.
The Special Edition also gives collectors one more version of the pair to find in the lineup.
COOLRAIN – POTBALL Series 2
There is one number that jumps out immediately in POTBALL Series 2.
Most of the lineup sits at 444 editions.
Kick has 22.
That makes the football-inspired POTBALL the clear outlier in COOLRAIN’s latest six-piece digital collectible series.
Artist Chanwoo Lee, better known as COOLRAIN, created POTBALL around a simple rounded form that can take on completely different personalities from one release to the next.
Series 2 moves through sport, travel, and winter. Birdie takes the character onto the golf course, Bowling turns it into a very literal bowling ball, HiKR heads out to explore Korea, LUV riffs on tennis, and Snowman stacks the familiar rounded shapes into something ready for winter.
Running through all of it is COOLRAIN’s “Friendship First” idea, with POTBALL designed as an open character that can carry whatever theme or personality gets poured into it.

Peach Momoko – The Cimmerian: The Frost-Giant’s Daughter #1
Peach Momoko’s cover for The Cimmerian: The Frost-Giant’s Daughter #1 arrived on VeVe this week as a one-of-one artwork.
Originally created for ABLAZE’s 2020 adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s story, the piece depicts Atali, daughter of Ymir, against a frozen mountain landscape.
Momoko’s flowing red hair, pale figure, and soft watercolour-inspired treatment give the image an almost weightless quality against the snow.
The significance of this piece speaks for itself. Securing a 1-of-1 original work from an artist of Peach Momoko’s standing would be a dream addition to any collection.
Comic Releases
Two Marvel First Appearances
Marvel gave us two major character debuts this week, separated by a few years of comic history and one fairly enormous difference in wingspan.
The X-Men #60
The X-Men #60 brings us the first appearance of Sauron.
The story finds Havok at the mercy of Dr. Karl Lykos, whose ability to absorb mutant energy transforms him into the winged creature that would become one of the X-Men’s stranger recurring enemies.
Written by Roy Thomas with art by Neal Adams, the issue comes from a visually distinctive period for the original X-Men series.
And yes, Marvel really did name the giant flying energy vampire Sauron.
Subtle, he is not.
The digital comic arrived with five cover variants and 1,000 editions.
Thor #134
Thor #134 gives us another major Marvel debut with the first appearance of the High Evolutionary.
Thor’s search for Jane Foster leads him to Wundagore, where Herbert Wyndham’s experiments with accelerated evolution are already producing some very strange results.
The issue also brings Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver into the story, tying it into the increasingly complicated history surrounding Wundagore.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the High Evolutionary would go on to become one of Marvel’s major figures whenever genetics, artificial evolution, and scientific meddling entered the picture.

Final Thoughts
That wraps up another week on VeVe.
tokidoki turned the drinks cabinet into a character lineup, COOLRAIN gave collectors a 22-edition POTBALL to chase, and Peach Momoko brought a one-of-one artwork to the week.
Marvel, meanwhile, went back to the beginning for two villains whose stories would keep growing for decades after their first appearances.
Somehow that leaves us with sake bottles with feet, a football, a flying energy vampire, Wundagore, and Peach Momoko all sharing the same recap.
Pretty normal week around here.
