Everything We Know About the New Street Fighter Movie

A quarter on the cabinet meant you had next. You watched the player ahead of you, sized up their Ken, and waited for your shot at landing a Shoryuken. Sometimes you pulled it off. Sometimes you blamed the joystick.

Now, Street Fighter is heading back to the big screen. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the new live-action movie arrives in U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026. Set in 1993, the story brings Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li together for the World Warrior Tournament, with a dangerous conspiracy waiting behind the fights. Here’s everything we know about the new Street Fighter movie so far.

When is the New Street Fighter Movie Coming Out?

Street Fighter opens in U.S. theaters on Friday, October 16, 2026, distributed by Paramount Pictures. Mark your calendar for opening weekend, and check local listings for screening times.

The Street Fighter movie premiere gives longtime fans another reason to revisit their favorite fighters. But the choice of setting is particularly tempting. Street Fighter II arrived in arcades in 1991, so a story set in 1993 drops us straight into the period that helped make these characters household names. The nostalgia is already built into the calendar.

What Is the New Street Fighter Movie About?

The new movie reunites Ryu and Ken Masters after time apart. Chun-Li brings them together for the World Warrior Tournament, as a larger conspiracy unfolds behind the competition.

That gives the movie more to work with than simply moving from one fight to the next. Ryu and Ken have always been natural rivals, with different personalities and fighting styles that make every matchup feel personal. Now, that rivalry comes with some history behind it.

Chun-Li also appears to be the one pulling them back into the action. Between the tournament, their fractured friendship, and whatever is happening behind the scenes, the setup gives the fights something important to build around.

Meet the Street Fighter 2026 Cast

Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters, and Callina Liang takes on Chun-Li. The wider Street Fighter 2026 cast includes Cody Rhodes as Guile, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma. Jason Momoa plays Blanka, adding another very recognizable name to a character lineup that hardly needs an introduction.

The appeal is in seeing how these characters’ distinct personalities come to life. Ryu shouldn’t move like Ken, just as Guile shouldn’t act like Blanka. Nailing those differences makes the cast feel like real fighters, not just costumes.

The Arcade Feeling We Want Back

Our hope for the new Street Fighter movie is fairly simple: give us fights we can follow and characters we want to follow into them. Let a signature move have a proper setup. Let a rivalry simmer. Leave enough room for the ridiculousness that makes this particular universe such a pleasure.

After all, this is a world in which Guile’s hair is a perfectly reasonable personal choice. Nobody needs to apologize for having fun.

The best nostalgia gives an old memory somewhere new to go. If this film can make a packed theater react like the crowd around an arcade cabinet, it will have captured something worth bringing back.
