Wings of Desire

A landscape of constant motion with figures both imagined and real, Wings of Desire pays homage to those who have long inspired Baseman. Icons from the worlds of fine art, music, TV, film, and animation are mixed with the artist’s own original characters (Toby, Venison, Veritas, Buster, Manny Moa), as well as family members like his favorite cousin, his grandfather, and Blackie the Cat. All hybridized as moa birds. Baseman uses the extinct moa to symbolize those loved and lost.
