Munkyking started in ‘03 in Chinatown LA, Southern California’s first designer toy store. They expanded to a gallery and flagship store on Melrose, fueling the genre’s growth with art shows, signings, releases and events. The brand has moved away from retail and spent the last decade creating designer toys with a roster of renown pop-surrealist artists. Born in Philly, raised in Fresno, Luke Chueh, pronounced CHU, studied graphic design at Cal Poly (BS in Art & Design). After an award-winning illustration and design career, Chueh moved to LA in 2003, launching his fine art career at the iconic, underground art show, Cannibal Flower. Chueh has since grown into an LA art scene staple, employing minimal color schemes, simple animal characters, and an endless list of ill-fated situations. He stylistically balances cute with brute, walking the line between comedy and tragedy, and has been featured in galleries worldwide with many paintings turned into vinyl toys.
