This work depicts Jeanne d'Arc, a peasant girl who lived in medieval France during the Hundred Years War with England. Her belief that she could hear voices from God took her to the court of the French king and to the forefront of the battlefield, where she inspired victory. Aged 19, she was captured by the English, and burnt at the stake when she refused to renounce her beliefs. Later she was canonized, and the English were driven out of France. House of Cards is our series depicting the courageous and powerful women throughout history who shaped the world.
