Aoraki Mount Cook is New Zealand's highest mountain, over 3,700 meters in height, situated in the South Island's Southern Alps. New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary acquired his technical mountaineering skills by climbing peaks such as Aoraki ahead of joining Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay to become one of the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. © 2023 NZ Post.
